APPI South Event - Implementing the Vision: Heart of our City Master Plan to Present Day

Registration is closed for this event

The APPI South Events Group will provide attendees with some insight into 3 current City of Lethbridge projects which are contributing to the continuous improvement of the Downtown.

The Heart of Our City Master Plan is Lethbridge’s 50 year plan for the continuous improvement of its Downtown.  As the City has been implementing the Master Plan, “lessons learned” from elsewhere  have played an influential role. For example, it has been recognized that  “achieving success is a long-term commitment & process”.  The plan has been effect for a bit over 10 years now, so being steadfast has resulted in some of the bigger projects and initiatives envisioned by the plan, being undertaken.  Coupled with that, another “lesson learned” was that “Success will depend on a variety of initiatives unfolding simultaneously”.  These projects include:

3rd Avenue Reconstruction Project
This project involves the detailed design and reconstruction of one of the City’s oldest streets.  Planning Initiatives Manager George Kuhl,  and Project Manager, Craig Richter will provide an overview of the conceptual planning that took place and detailed design process which is currently underway.

Downtown Regional Park’n’Ride Transit Terminal
Representatives of the Transit Department will provide attendees some insight into the challenges and opportunities of this project which involves the creation of a transit terminal that will address current convenience and safety challenges in the downtown core. It will also provide a park 'n' ride option for those using other bus services to travel throughout the region.

Galt Gardens Master Plan and Reconstruction Project
Project Co-managers George Kuhl and Mike Wilk will provide attendees with an overview of the Galt Gardens Master Plan which has recently been accepted by City Council and is currently requesting CIP funding.  Following the brief presentation, attendees will take a 4 block stroll to Galt Gardens for a  listed “Jane’s Walk”-about through the park.
