PLAN North West is the official publication of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI), Manitoba Professional Planners Institute (MPPI) and Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute (SPPI). PLAN North West offers opportunities for publication of original works that are both community-based and research oriented, and relevant to Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.
PLAN North West highlights each province and territory in order to explore our diversity in the field of planning. Each issue includes a variety of authors and pieces, including case studies, trends analysis, personal profiles, and research. Our goal is to present our shared issues as planners and our collective responses.
The Editorial Board includes Laurie Kimber RPP, MCIP (Editor in Chief), Miles Dibble RPP, MCIP, Kyle Whitfield RPP, Brittany Shewchuk RPP, MCIP, Lenore Swystun RPP, MCIP and Samatha Mark, RPP, MCIP.
PLAN North West is delivered electronically to all APPI members via email. Members may request that they continue to receive the publication in hard copy by emailing [email protected].
Call for Submissions
We are always open for submissions for future issues of PLAN North West. We are looking for original works that are community-based and research oriented, and relevant to Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. All planners, whether you are a regulated member or not, are encouraged to submit their ideas and articles.

Types of submissions include case studies, analysis of events and/or trends, profiles of notable planners, projects, or programs, overviews of best practices and guidelines, book reviews or excerpts, and opinion pieces.

Regulated members of the Institute may log the time committed to preparing articles as structured learning for the purposes of their mandatory Continuous Professional Learning (CPL).
