APPI Event - Panel New Planning Leaders on the Block

Presenters:

Teaka Broughm, BCD(hon), MPA, MCIP, RPP (she/her), Director, Planning and Economic Development, City of Leduc

Teaka is a people-first leader who views community building as a critical way to achieve the environmental, social, and governance outcomes public sector organizations strive for. She has supported public sector organizations for over a decade through strategic land use planning, policy, and partnerships. She currently leads a team of talented city-building and economic development professionals in the City of Leduc, Alberta. Her work allows her to foster collaborative environments where teams solve complex problems with skill and creativity. Teaka holds a Bachelor of Community Design with honours in Environmental Planning from Dalhousie University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria.

Natasha De Sandi, MPlan (she/her), Senior Long Range Planner, Parkland County

Natasha has been working in the planning realm for approximately 10 years with waves throughout the private and public sector within Alberta. Her work experience is predominantly in statutory plan development and implementation. This helps Natasha bring a unique perspective to the different scales of planning and how long-range planning decisions impact on the ground development. Currently, Natasha is working on the completion of a multi-year MDP amendment which will include a County Technical Growth Study and Highway Corridor Analysis.

Natasha enjoys solving problems. With the phase out of coal and the shift to alternative energy production, it is important for planners to be proactive and think of innovative ways to support growth and diversify their economy through thoughtful land use planning. Planners should never place themselves in boxes; alike to plants, ideas can’t grow in the dark.

Lyndsay Francis, RPP, MCIP (They/She), Senior Planner, City of Fort Saskatchewan

Lyndsay is a queer millennial planner who believes we do our best work when we bring our true selves into our roles. By day Lyndsay works in communities creating and implementing planning policies and by night building social community through events, fundraisers, and drag performances. Merging their lived experience as a queer person and professional experience as a Planner, Lyndsay incorporates an inclusive lens into their work. Lyndsay graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Community Design with honours in Urban Design Studies. Lyndsay is a Registered Professional Planner with over 8 years’ experience and focuses on putting the community into community design.
