In this session, Truper will reflect upon the instructive learnings and challenges in his elected years in local government which led him to a career as a professional planner and senior administrator. Issues discussed will include regional planning, planning in the public and private sectors, transit, urban design, densities, environmental stewardship and translating that work to action. Comparisons will be drawn between planning and local government administration in Ontario and Alberta.
Truper makes communities better places by design. He challenges the status quo by understanding the temporal impact of planning decisions, thinking ten steps ahead and looking at the big picture.
With a move to Ontario in 2018 to be closer to his family, Truper started work at the administrative level with the Town of Lakeshore, Ontario as Director of Community and Development Services, appointed Chief Administrative Officer in 2019.
