Volunteer Opportunities with APPI - You can make a Difference!

Volunteering provides members with a unique opportunity to contribute to the Institute and the profession, while broadening their professional networks and acquiring new skills. Volunteering with APPI is eligible to be logged or the purposes of the reporting of mandatory Continuous Professional Learning (CPL), as it enhances professional competency. APPI has the following new volunteer opportunities available. 

City of Calgary Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers required for consideration as APPI's Nominees to serve on the Calgary Planning Commission (CPC) - APPI has been invited to put forward non-binding nominations for appointments to the CPC.   If you are a RPP and interested in being considered as an APPI nominee to serve on the CPC, please send an email to the APPI office confirming your interest and attach a cover letter, resume (of no more than two single-sided pages) and completed CPC Qualifications Form to the APPI office at [email protected] by August 22, 2025

Volunteers required for consideration as APPI's Nominees to serve on the Calgary Urban Design Review Panel (CUDRP) - APPI has been invited to put forward non-binding nominations for appointments to the CUDRP.   If you are a RPP and interested in being considered as an APPI nominee to serve on the CUDRP, please send an email to the APPI office at [email protected] confirming your interest and attach a cover letter, resume (of no more than two single-sided pages) and completed CUDRP Qualifications Form by August 22, 2025.

APPI thanks all interested members for their willingness to represent their professional institute on the CPC and the CUDRP.  The City of Calgary and their Council has expressed a desire to receive multiple nominations for these positions. The final selection of appointees will be made by Calgary City Council.

Professional Standards Board Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers required for consideration as APPI's nominees to serve on the Professional Education and Examination Committee (PEEC) and Accreditation Program Committee (ACP) of the Professional Standards Board (PSB) - If you are a RPP and  interested in serving on either the PEEC or ACP, please send an email to the APPI office at [email protected] confirming your interest and attach a cover letter, and resume (of no more than two single-sided pages) by August 29, 2025.  

Professional Standards Board (PSB) Additional Volunteer Opportunities - The PSB is always seeking volunteers to help in its certification and accreditation review activities.   If you have been a RPP for a minimum of three years and are interested in serving as a Mentor or Sponsor of a Candidate member OR you have been a RPP for a minimum of seven years, and you are interested in serving on a Site Visit Team (SVT), conducting reviews of accredited planning program applications or regular reviews, or conducting Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) reviews, please visit the PSB’s Volunteer Page https://psb-planningcanada.ca/contact/volunteer/, or contact the PSB’s Executive Director for more information at [email protected]

APPI Volunteer Opportunities

APPI Regional Events Committees - The Regional Events Committees provide educational, professional and social opportunities for local members and to promote the planning profession within local communities.  APPI is seeking members of any class to assist in re-establishing the APPI Regional Events Committees in Southern, Central and Northern Alberta or the Territories, and to lead those committees in seeking out content for local in-person events or webinar content relevant to the committee's region, in support of the membership’s continuous professional learning, and with administrative support from the APPI staff.  For more information, or to submit an expression of interest email, please email [email protected] by August 29, 2025.

APPI Nominating Committee – The Nominating Committee is responsible for securing a slate of eligible nominees for the election to Council and that all interested parties have the opportunity to put their names forward as potential nominees. If you are a RPP and would like more information and/or to submit an expression of interest email, please email [email protected] by August 29, 2025.
