APPI Hike Series: Ha Ling Peak Chat

Join fellow planning professionals and outdoor enthusiasts for a guided learning hike to Ha Ling Peak in Kananaskis on Sunday, September 20, 2026, beginning at 9:30 AM

Led by Anika Drost, RPP, MCIP, Senior Development Planner at the Town of Canmore and Janna Bradshaw, RPP, MCIP, Development Planner at the Town of Canmore, this field excursion will provide insights into Canmore history, mountain town planning considerations, current projects and plans, and Canmore-specific actions to protect wildlife and the environment.

The Ha Ling hike trail provides several stunning viewpoints that allow scenic peeks at the Town of Canmore and allow you to be submerged into the beautiful mountains that surround it. Designed for planning professionals and anyone interested in hiking, and gaining some insights into mountain town planning, this hike covers approximately 8 kilometres round trip, with about 800 metres of elevation gain, with opportunities for discussion and learning throughout the route.

This hike is best suited for individuals with moderate hiking experience who are comfortable completing hikes on mountain trails in variable weather conditions. Participants are responsible for assessing their own fitness and preparedness and should ensure they have the appropriate clothing, footwear, water, food, and safety equipment required for the conditions. Participants are also encouraged to review the Alberta Parks' hiking and backcountry safety recommendations before attending and bring the following items listed on the Alberta Parks website here: https://cms.albertaparks.ca/albertaparks-ca/advisories-and-public-safety/outdoor-safety/hiking-and-backcountry-safety/

By registering for and attending this event, participants acknowledge that they are taking part voluntarily and assume responsibility for the risks associated with hiking. APPI, its organizers, and hike leaders accept no responsibility or liability for any injury, loss, damage, or other incident that may occur during participation.

We look forward to summiting this mountain while sharing mountain town planning insights and great views! Don’t forget your bear spray!
