A fifty year career can be "straight as a die" or a curved downhill run on Blackcombe. Harry's career might give the downhill run a run for its money in many ways, but it has always been based on the principles of: environmental conservation, open communication, fiscal responsibility and professional accountability. Now let's see what lessons and stories can be drawn from that type of a professional practice. HARRY HARKER, MSc, RPP, FCIP Harry is presently in his 50th year of professional planning practice. His educational credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Health Engineering, post-graduate studies in Regional Planning and Urban Design (which is what brought him to Canada 48 years ago), as well as an Urban Design certificate from the City Program at SFU. Along the circuitous course of his career Harry has met the requirements to become one of the inaugural members of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP-1979) and subsequently a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP-1982). In 2014 he received the honour of being elected to the CIP College of Fellows. His career has included 25 years of private practice, 5 years of practice with not-for-profits and 20 years of employment with local and regional governments in the US Mid-West, Yukon Territory, British Columbia and Alberta. While he is still passionate about the creation of the best possible communities, his love for basketball and baseball/softball can easily get him talking about basketball shooting mechanics or the GOATS he has been privileged to see on court or the diamond. This webinar qualifies for 1.0 structured learning unit.
