Opportunity to learn more about the "15 minute city, where people can access what they need by foot, bike or transit". Share insights on this concept and other planning paradigms which have influenced Canadian cities. Together we will consider how communities have been shaped by various influences and explore how these planning approaches hold up during the pandemic. There will be facilitated discussion on how affordable 15 minute neighborhoods might help tackle both the climate and housing crisis facing cities all over the country. Presented by: Brier Reid is both a RPP and a Professional Engineer. Brier’s planning expertise provides a perspective on the complex human-scale services of an urban centre, while her engineering experience allows Brier to bridge the gap between policy development, technical analysis, and detailed design. Brier is a specialist in land use planning and design, stormwater design, stormwater modelling and wetland preservation. Her design passions are guided by the responsible and sustainable growth of urban environments including the efficient design of cities and healthy ecosystems. Amanda-Brea Watson is a RPP who lives and works Yellowknife. Amanda-Brea has worked as a municipal planner for several municipalities in the Alberta, Ontario and the Northwest Territories. Since joining Dillon Amanda-Brea’s professional focus has been supporting conventional governments with planning administration and other land use matters, however, and working for the Tlicho Regional Government as well as Community Governments.
