In Memory of Jolie Whetzel

Jolie passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 after suffering a massive stroke at the age of 68. She joined the Town Planning Institute of Canada in 1974 as a student at the University of Waterloo and after graduating from the School of Regional Planning and Resource Development, she relocated to Alberta and has been a dedicated member of APPI since 1979.  Jolie served the Institute(s) and planning profession in many capacities including but not limited to:  APPI Council, APPI oral examiner, APPI Practice Review Committee,  APPI Alberta Sustainability Planning Initiative and Professional Standards Board Accreditation Program Committee.  In 2013 the Institute acknowledged and celebrated Jolie’s significant contribution by bestowing upon her the APPI Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award.  Jolie was active as an environmental planner and consultant, a planning teacher and mentor to many students and planners young and old since the mid 1970's.    Jolie brought passion and a sense of humour to everything and everyone she touched.  A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday November 24 at 2:00 PM at Connelly-McKinley Ltd, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. All are welcome.

Calgary's new Central Library, designed by Snohetta, officially opened its doors to the public on November 1st. Join us for a tour of Calgary's newest community space. Following the tour, the Calgary Events Committee will host their annual Holiday Social at the King Eddy pub at 438 9 Avenue SE, Calgary. There will be appetizers and a cash bar.

At King Eddy's, Phil Dack, RPP, founder of the 'Friends of the Eddy' will give a short talk on how the Eddy was saved from becoming a parking lot. Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of the National Music Centre will also join us.

The tour qualifies for 1.0 structured learning unit. Click here to pay and register online. The $15.00 fee covers both events, however, if you are attending only the tour or social, the fee is the same and registration is required.

Brownlee LLP presents: 2018 Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Training Workshops

The Municipal Government Act requires Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB) members and clerks to participate in mandatory training based on a standard program approved by Alberta Municipal Affairs.  Brownlee LLP will be offering one-day workshops for SDAB members and clerks which meet the legislative requirements and include a mandatory assessment of learning to certify participation. A Full Day Workshop, Continental Breakfast and Lunch Included. Individual Registration: $375.00
These workshops qualify for self reported 7.5 structured learning units.
