Planning Awards

Deadline: 3:30 PM June 20

Each year the Alberta Professional Planners Institute recognizes exemplary planning within the planning profession. Awards acknowledge meritorious plans and projects, undertaken in whole or in part by members of the Institute, that significantly contribute to the livability of communities in Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Plans and projects specific to rural and indigenous planning are encouraged.

Applicants are applying for an award recognizing exemplary planning.

•    Education

Volunteer Recognition Awards

Deadline: 3:00 PM March 31

APPI's Volunteer Recognition Program recognizes individual dedication and contributions to APPI and the planning profession more generally.

Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award

This award recognizes long-term commitment to the Institute and volunteerism. Nominations are restricted to APPI RPP members who have a minimum ten years of service. Click here for the nomination form.

Volunteer of the Year Award

This award recognizes a significant contribution made in the previous year [2021] and is open to any member regulated or non-regulated. Click here for the nomination form.

Exceptional Mentor Award

This award recognizes the above and beyond contribution of a RPP member in supporting the growth of a Candidate member in their professional planning practice and competence, in any capacity. Click here for the nomination form.

Please forward the name of your nominee(s) to the APPI office using the appropriate form for each award you are nominating the member for and include a succinct description of their contribution and why the member is worthy of the award (250 words or less) by 3:00 PM  March 31, 2022. Submit your nomination via email to the APPI office.

Student Awards

Deadline: 3:00 PM May 13

APPI annually recognizes and awards the achievement of students enrolled in post-secondary institutions with an interest in planning as a profession. Student awards are evaluated based on the entirety of the application and overall merit.The deadline for all submissions is 3:00 PM Friday, May 13, 2022.

APPI Student Essay Contest — Indigenous, Remote, Rural and Northern Planning

The award is intended to cultivate students’ interest and further study in the realm of “Indigenous, Remote, Rural, and Northern Planning", which is of paramount relevance within APPI's jurisdiction. Click here for the application form.

APPI Student Education Scholarship

The APPI Student Education Scholarship provides monetary assistance to students for tuition, research, books or other academic expenses. Click here for the application form.

APPI Student Conference Award

The APPI Student Conference Award provides monetary assistance to students attending and participating at an approved conference. Click here for the application form.

Legacy Fund Award

Deadline: 3:00 PM May 13

APPI is offering a monetary award to provide financial assistance to APPI Regulated members interested in attending and presenting planning-based information at a national or international conference, or for those engaged in research of emerging practices and innovation in the advancement of excellence in planning.
