APPI Student Scholarships and Awards

APPI annually recognizes and awards the achievement of students enrolled in post-secondary institutions with an interest in planning as a profession.

APPI Student Education Scholarships

This scholarship is intended to provide monetary assistance to students for tuition, research, books or other academic expenses. Click here for the application form.  A maximum of three (3) scholarships will be granted at $1500 each. One award may be given to an Undergraduate degree student and two awards may be given to Masters degree students.

APPI Student Essay Contest - Indigenous, Remote, Rural or Northern Planning

This award is for students to cultivate an interest and further study in the realm of  “Indigenous, Remote, Rural, and Northern Planning " which is paramount relevance in the APPI jurisdiction.  APPI may award up to two awards valued at $1,500 each for the 2022 year.  The recipient will have the opportunity to have their essay published in PLAN North West. Click here for the application.

APPI Student Conference Award

The APPI Student Conference Award provides monetary assistance to students attending and participating at an approved conference. Click here for the application form.  A maximum of two (2) awards will be granted at $1500 each. One award may be given to an Undergraduate degree student and one award may be given to a Masters degree student.

All of the student awards are evaluated based on the entirety of the application and overall merit.

The deadline for aa submissions is 3:00 PM Friday, May 13, 2022.

APPI is interested in hearing from students who demonstrate an interest in the field of planning and advancing their planning education. Applicants are encouraged to be creative with their entries and may submit for the Education Scholarship, Conference Award and the Essay Contest.

Students do not have to be APPI members to be eligible for an Education Scholarship, Conference Award or Essay Contest but must be enrolled full-time in an Undergraduate or Masters degree program in a planning or planning related field of study within Alberta, Nunavut or Northwest Territories. Students completing their final year in 2022 are eligible to apply. These awards are NOT intended for practicing professionals who are furthering their education (practicing professionals are encouraged to apply for the Legacy Fund).
