This webinar will provide an introduction to FireSmart in Alberta. Whether in the design stage, building, or performing renovations, there are many ways land use planning and development standards can help protect homes and communities from wildfires. Effective local government land use planning can support community wildfire resiliency and infrastructure survivability. Learn about FireSmart Alberta and our vision to support communities in Alberta to live resiliently with wildfire. Laura Stewart has worked with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry in the Wildfire Management Branch for eight years as a FireSmart Specialist. Before joining the Alberta Wildfire team, Laura spent five years with a municipal fire department as the Community Safety Education Coordinator. In this role, Laura was responsible for coordinating all home fire safety, emergency preparedness and injury prevention programming. In 2012, FireSmart planning and education were added to Laura’s portfolio, and she led the municipal FireSmart program. Laura chairs the provincial cross-discipline FireSmart committee and works to empower Albertans to live resiliently with wildfire! This webinar qualifies for 1.0 structured learning unit.
