Every Child Matters

The Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) collectively mourns for all the Indigenous children who died within the Kamloops residential school and in residential schools throughout Canada, including those children yet to be found and acknowledged. Our hearts are heavy, and our thoughts are with all residential school survivors, their families and their communities, during this time.

On May 31, 2021 CIP issued a statement to honour and recognize the lives lost at the Kamloops Residential school and re-affirm the Canadian planning profession’s support of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and commitment to long-term relationship-building, learning and the healing process.  Read it here Canadian Institute of Planners | CIP (cip-icu.ca). 

June is Indigenous History Month

While we are all reflecting upon the injustices inflicted on the first nations peoples, it is also important to acknowledge that June is Indigenous History Month and a time to celebrate and honor the rich cultures and traditions of the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people. 

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, 2021 and in keeping with APPI’s commitment to demonstrate leadership in planning for reconciliation, APPI is hosting a Community Planning and the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) presentation on June 22, 2021.  To register for this complimentary webinar, Community Planning and the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) | Alberta Professional Planners Institute (albertaplanners.com)

The Institute respects the histories, languages and cultures of all of Canada’s First Peoples whether they be of First Nation, Métis or Inuit descent, and recognizes that their presence continues to enrich our vibrant communities.
