APPI COVID-19 ResponseProfessional planners are already working on reintegration and resilience strategies as a result of COVID-19. Moving forward, professional planners are going to be especially important in the post-COVID-19 world as governments, companies and communities get back to work. APPI is here to support its members and the profession during this time. 1. APPI has been collaborating with the Government of Alberta and several other professional organizations to develop a new Professional Services Continuity Plan for provincial emergencies. The PSCP identifies how APPI can provide expertise and how the Institute is prepared to address issues and deploy professionals. While the plan provides a foundation for a proactive strategy it also creates awareness for professional members and the public, of the importance of professional planners as a human resource. 2. APPI has engaged with the Standards Council of Canada in their efforts to develop national standards and metrics around resiliency. 3. Recognizing that our members' access to networking opportunities, professional development and planning resources may be challenged during this time of social distancing and economic disruption, APPI is continuing to explore and offer new ways and tools to support its members. APPI has been in close contact with the other planning institutes across Canada to ensure fairness and consistency with respect to membership fees and CPL requirements, and at this time APPI is not waiving the fees or CPL requirements for 2020. However, if you are personally experiencing difficulties, that would impede your ability to meet your professional obligations, please contact MaryJane Alanko, APPI Executive Director, to discuss potential options at [email protected].
2020 Continuous Professional Learning RequirementsEngaging in continuous professional learning as professionals serves “the public interest” and demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning and maintaining the highest standards of skills, knowledge and professionalism. There are many ways to get learning units other than by attending in-person events or conferences, and CPL offerings are not restricted to those provided by APPI and CIP. Members are encouraged to explore the following as options for acquiring their mandatory 18 learning units, of which a minimum of 9 must be structured.
