APPI Calgary Event - Coming to a Yard Near Yours: Honeybees in Urban Municipalities

 Registration is closed for this event
Urban honeybee farming is becoming increasingly popular in and around major urban municipalities in Canada. Until recently, the push to plan for bees in urban environments has been less apparent but with honeybees being introduced into residential contexts, guidelines and regulations are becoming a necessity.

Thomas Schweizer, President of the Calgary and District Beekeepers Association (CDBA), has been involved on a voluntary basis to assist the City of Calgary with honeybee-related inquiries. With him, we will:
- explore how the City of Calgary works with the CDBA to guide honeybees in the city
- provide background on the benefits of honeybees
- explore issues related to honeybees in an urban context, and;
- discuss how planners can work to establish policies and guidelines related to honeybees in municipalities across Alberta.

This event qualifies for 1.0 structured unit.
