FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – January 31, 2017

APPI Council Candour

APPI Council met on Friday, January 20th, after an informal lunch with Planning students at the University of Calgary. We reviewed our progress on several fronts, including preparations for the comprehensive communications strategy currently under development. Apart from the regular business of administration and governance, we covered the following topics:

  • The list of APPI's strategic projects was reviewed and updated‎. We will focus on our strategic goals, measure our success, analyze the results and adjust as necessary to address any priority shifts.

  • APPI members can expect to see a couple of proposed Bylaw amendments later this year, to address upcoming changes in provincial regulation and CIP governance. Details will be circulated when the amendments are ready.

  • Late last year, APPI Council re-engaged the membership and the APPI MGA Task Force to provide formal comments and recommendations on Continuing the Conversation: Further Topics for Discussion on the Municipal Government Act. The Task Force's report addresses only topics that were deemed germane and significant to planning and is now posted on the APPI website click here.

  • APPI has submitted applications for funding through the Government of Alberta’s Status of Women Grant Program.  If successful, our intention is to utilize the funds to host a one-day “Women, Community Development and Stewardship Symposium” in the fall that would be open to everyone.  Successful grant applicants will be notified in March 2017.

  • ‎Some big plans are afoot for the APPI/CIP annual conference "Building Resilience" in Calgary! Stay tuned for more details on the program, special events, sponsorship opportunities and registration - and save the date (June 17-20) in your calendars! Refer to the conference website.

  • Council was pleased to reaffirm that the University of Alberta's Planning Program has been accredited as a recognized Canadian professional degree program. ‎ Congratulations U of A.
