APPI Edmonton Event - Establishing Territorial Jurisdiction

Knowing which side you are on is vital in establishing authority and jurisdiction.  Opus Stewart Weir conducted the first legal survey of a portion of the remote boundary between the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Mining Districts.  This involved surveying and documenting the boundary at approximate 10 km intervals from the mainland to the northern most point of the NWT-Nunavut land boundary on Borden Island.  The survey was based out of the community of Ulukhaktok, NWT (population 400) on the western side of Victoria Island.  Find out how the boundary was surveyed 
with control points of less than 2 cm in a challenging landscape of distance, weather, and polar bears.

Presented by Dagen Deslauriers. Dagen is a Professional Land Surveyor with broad survey and mapping experience in the Urban and Oil and Gas Sectors; his 15 years of experience includes Boundary, Engineering, Construction, Pipeline and As-built Surveys. He is currently the Senior Manager of Survey Projects at OPUS Stewart Weir and provides leadership and direction to Project Managers and technical staff. Dagen received Professional Commissions as an Alberta Land Surveyor and a Canada Lands Surveyor in 2010 and is an active member of both the Alberta Land Surveyors Association and the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors.
